Luke Combs Reveals “Absolutely Wild” Story Smoking With Willie Nelson

Country music sensation Luke Combs recently shared his unbelievable experience of getting high with legendary musician Willie Nelson.

During an interview with the Full Send Podcast, Luke Combs revealed that while in Maui for a songwriting festival, he found himself in for an unexpected turn of events. One of the festival organizers invited him to play a round of golf and later suggested they go to Willie Nelson’s beach house to play poker.

After a quick greeting, it didn’t take Willie Nelson long to produce one of his recreational items.

“So we get in there, we’re talkin’ for a minute. He rips the piece out, dude, you know what I mean? The peace pipe. And I’ve heard the stories, bro. It’s like, don’t, you know. Toby Keith has a song called ‘I’ll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again,’ you know what I mean?”

“Now we learned a hard lesson in a small Texas town /
He fired up a fat boy, and he passed it around /
The last words I spoke before they tucked me in /
I may discount bungee jump /
But I’ll never smoke weed with Willie again.

I’ll never smoke weed with Willie again /
My party’s all over before it begins /
You can pour me some Old Whiskey River, my friend /
But I’ll never smoke weed with Willie again.”

“I’ve heard the song. I’m aware of the moment, you know. And I go, ‘All right, man, when this thing comes, you only got one, dude, you can’t go twice.’”

Combs ended up taking two hits, despite being aware of the cautionary tales about smoking with Willie. He was taken aback by its potency, which led him to drink what he estimated to be about “two gallons” of water.

Combs recounted that the group eventually sat down to play poker. He humorously described how the men appeared to be seasoned players, swiftly switching between different card games, while Combs felt like he was barely keeping up with “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Nelson rose from the table and made his way down the hallway, where a punching bag was located.

“And he stands there, arms out, like full Karate Kid and starts just kicking this punching bag. Tossing crane kicks, dude, he’s 84, and like, just hammering this punching bag. And I’m looking at the poker table, and I’m like, ‘What is happening? Nobody sees this happen.’”

Combs continued, “He goes out, is out for five minutes, could’ve been five hours, I don’t know the difference at this point…comes back in, stops at the thing, hits one more crane kick, walks back in, doesn’t say a peep about it. Sits back down like nothin’ happened.”

Combs concluded that the entire experience with the now 90-year-old was “absolutely wild.”

It’s well-known that Willie Nelson is a dedicated marijuana enthusiast, attributing the plant to “saving his life.”

His openness about his cannabis use has led to various remarkable experiences, such as the famed smoke session on the White House roof.
