Country Singer Kennedy Reid Secures Her Spot In American Idol‘s Top 20

American Idol‘s Kennedy Reid delivered another outstanding country cover when she performed “Love Can Build a Bridge” by The Judds.

23-year-old Reid currently works as a mortician. However, she dreams of pursuing music full-time. After her successful run on Idol so far, it looks like that dream could become a reality.

Reid earned a Golden Ticket to Hollywood following her audition. She then made it through two brutal eliminations to advance into the Top 24.

As a member of the Top 24, Reid delivered a jaw-dropping cover of Bobbie Gentry’s “Fancy.” Her performance impressed all three judges and guest mentor Jelly Roll.

But most importantly, Reid’s performance impressed the viewers.

Fans got the first chance to vote for their favorite contestants after the Top 24 sang. When votes finally came in, Reid was revealed to be a member of the Top 20!

Kennedy Reid Shows Off Her Powerful Voice On The Judds’ “Love Can Build A Bridge”

As a member of the Top 20, Reid took the opportunity to share another country cover. She sang “Love Can Build a Bridge” by The Judds.

The Judds released “Love Can Build a Bridge” in 1990. The song reached the fifth spot on the Hot Country Songs chart.

Additionally, the song led The Judds to a Grammy win in the Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal category. Naomi Judd also won a Grammy for Country Song of the Year for serving as one of the song’s co-writers.

“Love Can Build a Bridge” was the final song Naomi Judd performed in public before her death on April 30, 2022.

That’s a lot of legacy to live up to. But Reid was up for the challenge, and poured her heart into her cover of “Love Can Build a Bridge.”

Her powerful performance earned lots of praise from Idol fans, who commented things such as:

“I’ve liked her since the audition, there’s a humility, groundedness, gratefulness and grace in her. And of course, good voice. And now there’s more confidence growing. Hope she gets to the end.”

“Good for her. That was her best performance so far.”

A very well done performance. I so enjoyed watching her she sounded amazing.”
