“Idol” Top 24: Kennedy Reid Delivers Jaw-Dropping Cover Of “Fancy”

Jelly Roll Mentors Country Singer Kennedy Reid As She Prepares To Perform As A Member Of American Idol‘s Top 24

Kennedy Reid felt “Fancy” when she hit the stage to perform in Hawaii as one of the Top 24 contestants on Season 22 of American Idol.

23-year-old Reid works as a mortician. But she takes the chance to sing whenever she can. In a conversation with The News-Enterprise, Reid joked “…I’m a mortician by day and a country singer by night.”

During her audition, Reid voiced her desire to eventually leave the funeral industry so she can pursue music full-time. After her outstanding performance, the judges told her that dream could become a reality.

Reid received a Golden Ticket to Hollywood. Then, she made it through two brutal rounds of eliminations to become a member of the Top 24. As a result, she got the chance to visit and perform at Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii.

Jelly Roll served as one of Idol’s guest mentors this season. He traveled to Hawaii to advise the members of the Top 24, including Reid.

The CMA Award-winning artist encouraged Reid to pour some personality into her upcoming performance. He told her, “When you start going to church at the end of that song, you’ve got to show them something they haven’t seen yet.”

Kennedy Reid Brings Idol Judges To Their Feet With “Sassy” Performance Of “Fancy”

Jelly Roll’s advice was perfect for the song Kennedy Reid chose to perform, “Fancy” by Bobbie Gentry. Reba McEntire is also known for recording a wildly popular version of the tune.

Reid took Jelly Roll’s advice to heart, and aimed to deliver a “sassy” performance of “Fancy.” And she succeded!

Wearing a glittery red dress, Reid’s spirited performance of “Fancy” left the judges in awe. All three of them (and Jelly Roll) jumped to their feet mid-song and remained standing for the rest of the performance.

Jelly Roll proudly looked on as Reid worked the crowd, all while showcasing the raw power of her voice.
