Former Voice Star Mia Matthews Finds Success On American Idol After Singing A Loretta Lynn Classic

19-year-old American Idol contestant Mia Matthews honored Loretta Lynn with her recent performance on the show.

Mia first amazed the judges during the auditions when she performed Sara Evans‘ “No Place That Far.” She auditioned with her sister, Jacy, and both received Golden Tickets to Hollywood.

Fans of The Voice may be familiar with the Matthews sisters. They competed on the show in 2020 with their mom, Tara, in a trio called Worth the Wait.

After turning four chairs with their audition, the group joined Blake Shelton’s team. They advanced to the Top 17 before they were eliminated.

Mia Matthews Lands In Idol‘s Top 24

Idol made a brutal series of cuts during Hollywood Week this year. First, the original pool of contestants went from 143 to 56. Then, the judges cut the remaining 56 contestants down to the Top 24.

Needless to say, the pressure was on when Mia Matthews took to the stage for her second Hollywood performance. She honored country music legend Loretta Lynn with a spunky cover of her classic song, “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man).”

The judges praised Mia’s performance and her pure country voice. “You are progressively dialing in your country sound with each round,” Luke Bryan told the young singer.

From there, Luke was happy to inform Mia she is now a member of the Top 24!

Mia sang right before Loretta’s granddaughter, Emmy Russell, who is also a contestant this season. Her performance made Emmy emotional.

Someone doing her song, her voice…I almost flashed back to me being ten years old and sitting backstage and hearing my grandma sing that song,” Emmy said.

Emmy also advanced to the Top 24, so she and Mia will continue on the show together. Sadly, Mia’s sister Jacy didn’t make the cut.

“She’s my best friend,” Mia said. “I don’t know how to do this without her.”

But Mia proved to have serious potential. We have faith that she’ll continue to shine and make her sister proud!
