Remembering Joe Diffie Five Years After His Sudden Death

It’s been five years since country music legend Joe Diffie passed away at the age of 61.

Joe Diffie made his mark on country music in the early ’90s with the release of his debut album, A Thousand Winding Roads.

Over the years, he charted 35 singles on the Hot Country Songs chart, with five reaching No.1, including “Home,” “If the Devil Danced,” “Third Rock from the Sun,” “Bigger Than the Beatles,” and “Pickup Man.”

Among Diffie’s many achievements, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1993. He also won a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for his recording of “Same Old Train,” which featured Merle Haggard, Clint Black, Emmylou Harris, and several other country stars.

Needless to say, Diffie’s work has become a staple in the country music genre.

Sadly, on March 29, 2020, the music world was shocked to learn that Joe Diffie had died due to complications from COVID-19. His unexpected death came just two days after he announced that he had contracted the virus.

Joe Diffie’s Kids Share Touching Tributes On The Fifth Anniversary Of His Death

Since his passing, Diffie’s legacy has lived on through countless tributes from fellow country artists. Stars like Jon Pardi, HARDY, Chris Young, and many others have given performances in honor of him.

Diffie’s loved ones also continue to celebrate his memory. On March 29, his son Parker and daughter Kylie shared emotional posts to social media honoring their late father.

Parker posted a throwback photo of himself as a child with Diffie. The words “I miss my Dad” were written across it. The caption of Parker’s post read:

“Today marks five years since you left us, and the weight of that time feels both heavy and fleeting. In the moments when I miss you the most, I find comfort in your music, your laughter, and the memories we shared. Your voice is a constant presence, a reminder of the love and wisdom you instilled in us.”

He went on to share that he has worked hard to carry on his father’s musical legacy.

“It’s a responsibility I take seriously, and it’s also a labor of love. Your music has touched so many lives, and I’m determined to keep that connection alive. I’ve been working hard to preserve and share your songs, to tell your story, and to inspire others with the same passion you had for country music.”

A little later, Diffie’s daughter, Kylie, shared her own tribute. She posted two photos of special moments with her father: one where he appears to be teaching her how to play guitar, and another from when she was a little girl, with him reading her a bedtime story.

“As i grow older, i start to realize all the things you’ll miss. my graduation from college, my future wedding, my successes, which are the tiniest things compared to the ocean of events that anyone would want their dad to witness,” she wrote in the caption.

“As time goes by, i thought it would get easier to deal with not having you around, especially for 5 years, but in all reality the memories never go away, the grief never goes away,” Kylie continued. “which is ok because you’re almost always on my mind which brings me peace. 5 years without you doesn’t feel real and i don’t think it ever will.”

She ended her post by saying “i love and miss you more than you know. send me something yellow today.”
