Loretta Lynn’s Son Ernie Underwent “Life-Saving” Surgery In January
Ernie Lynn, a country singer and the son of late country music legend Loretta Lynn, has recently struggled with his health. On January 23, Loretta’s official social media pages shared the news that he underwent a “critical” surgery that day.
The post read:
“Today, Loretta’s son Ernest Ray underwent a critical surgery as a result of kidney failure. In moments like these we are reminded that all that really matters is faith and family. We would love to know you are praying with us for Ernie. Thank you—The Lynn Family.”

Days later, Loretta’s page also shared the news that her daughter, Cissie, underwent surgery for mouth cancer. She has been recovering, and Loretta’s family appreciates the prayers.
Before Ernie’s most recent operation, his wife, Crystal, shared he previously underwent two other surgeries for kidney failure and dialysis. Those surgeries were not successful, so he went in for the operation on January 23.
“It is a life-saving and life-sustaining operation, so we desperately need it to work this time so that they don’t have to take more drastic measures,” Crystal wrote on Facebook.
Crystal continued to keep people updated on Ernie’s recovery. There were some ups and downs, but Ernie eventually started doing better. Crystal said, “I have no explanation for it other than GOD….”
Ernie’s Wife Asks For Prayers As He Hopes To Receive A New Kidney
But Ernie Lynn’s health journey is not over yet. On April 3, Crystal wrote that they’d appreciate some prayers as Ernie hopes to receive a new kidney.
“We would appreciate your prayers asking for God’s influence and favor so that Ernie may receive approval for this procedure, as a new kidney would drastically improve his quality of life, length of life, and of course his emotional and mental health,” Crystal said.
She shared an update the following day (April 4). While they don’t know yet if Enrie has been approved for a transplant, they should have an answer soon.
“Ernie Update: We don’t have an official decision yet, but we feel like yesterday went really well. We should know more within a couple of weeks,” Crystal said. “We sincerely thank you ALL for all of your prayers and support. God is good….always…“
Ernie is one of six children Loretta shared with her husband Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn. They had two sons and four daughters. Their eldest children, Betty Sue and Jack Benny, died in 2013 and 1984.
We’ll keep Ernie Lynn and the entire Lynn family in our thoughts. We wish Ernie a continued recovery, and pray he gets the kidney he needs.
