GAA Classic Car Auctions

One lucky buyer is the new owner of a special piece of Jimmy Buffett memorabilia

Nearly 800 cars were auctioned off at the annual GAA Classic Car Auction in Greensboro, NC over the weekend. The top prize among them was a 1963 Ford Falcon Convertible owned by the late Jimmy Buffett.

Johnny Ransom, the General Manager of GAA, recalled discovering the vehicle while visiting a client in Florida. He told a local news station:

“I didn’t even know he had it… He went over there, pulled it back and showed me… Then he showed me the title, whose name it was in. Oh wow, my teeth just about fell out! This is great!”

The name on the title was none other than James William Buffett of Key West, Florida.

Jimmy Buffet’s Ford Falcon is one-of-a-kind

The 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint convertible formerly owned by the “Margaritaville” singer is unlike any other vehicles of the same make and model. It has a roll bar that was added by Buffett so that it could hold a surfboard. The classic car also came with a signed guitar and one of the singer’s surfboards, making it the ultimate “Parrothead” prize.

The final selling price for this unique vehicle and accompanying memorabilia was $258,500.

Ransom reflected:

“We’ve sold some million-dollar cars, and that’s been great. But for me to be able to sell a Jimmy Buffett car, still titled in Jimmy Buffett’s name, his guitar and surfboard goes along with it all in one package deal with the authenticity saying this is his signature on the guitar… It’s great, it’s a great day.”
