Toby Keith has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since, only making a rare public appearance here and there. In November 2022, Keith made his first return to the stage when he was dining at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse in Lexington, Kentucky. After being coaxed to take a mic and sing a song or two, Keith reportedly ended up entertaining patrons for nearly an hour.

That same week, Toby was honored during the BMI Country Awards ceremony in Nashville where he was presented with the BMI Icon Award.

That same month, Keith shared his only update regarding his health with CMT’s Cody Alan, saying, “I need a little bit of time to just rest up and heal up.”

“It’s pretty debilitating to have to go through all that, but as long as everything stays hunky-dory, then we’ll look at something good in the future,” Toby said.
