Gatlin Brothers Announce Farewell Tour After 70 Years Of Singing Together

The Gatlin Brothers are saying “farewell” on one final tour.

After 70 years of singing together, brothers Larry, Steve, and Rudy Gatlin have decided it’s time to take a step back. The trio, known for hit songs such as “All the Gold in California” and “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You),” made the announcement at the Ryman Auditorium on February 23.

The brothers were at the Ryman to celebrate their 70 years as a group. Ahead of the show, Larry said:

Brother Steve, Brother Rudy, and I are grateful to God for the 70 years we have had making music together. We are thankful for our millions of fans all over the world and for the good folks in Nashville who helped us make the music. We’re also grateful to the performers and friends who will be participating in our 70th Anniversary Celebration. Keep the faith.

That 70th anniversary celebration will be blended into the group’s farewell tour. The Tennessean reports that the trek will include a total of 70 dates, so there will be plenty of chances to see Larry, Steve, and Rudy sing together one last time.

Plus, those dates could span across multiple years, so this isn’t an immediate “goodbye.”

In addition to the 70 tour dates, the Gatlins still plan to maintain their current commitments. Their website lists a small handful of shows, including dates in Michigan and Georgia. Larry Gatlin appears to be performing solo in Lubbock, Texas, on March 13.

They’ll also continue singing at the Grand Ole Opry, of which they’ve been a member for 49 years. They currently have an Opry show booked for March 21.

Larry Gatlin Shares More About The Group’s Last Tour

The Tennessean spoke with Larry Gatlin about his and his brothers’ decision to go on a farewell tour. He said the decision is all about ensuring they finish on a high note after a storied run together.

The Music Universe reports that during the Ryman show on February 23, Larry told the audience he’d like to end his touring career with an 80th birthday concert at the iconic venue. Larry is currently 77, so his declaration made it even more evident that the Gatlins will still be around for a little while.

The exact dates and cities on the Gatlin Brothers’ farewell tour remain unknown at the time of this writing. Stay tuned for more information in the future.

Congratulations to the Gatlins on 70 years of making great music!
