Trace Adkins Touches On The Topic Of Retirement
Is Trace Adkins thinking about retiring? He somewhat answered that question during a recent interview…and fans may not like his answer.
Entertainment Tonight stopped to chat with Adkins on the red carpet for the premiere of his new movie, I Can Only Imagine 2. During their conversation, the interviewer, Cassie DiLaura, asked the “Still a Soldier” singer if he’ll know when it’s time to hang up his hat.
Adkins joked, “I knew ten years ago. But my accountant was like, ‘No.‘”
64-year-old Adkins made it clear that he’s considered retiring (at least from touring), sooner rather than later. In fact, he told DiLaura he is “gonna give ’em another year” at least, but he doesn’t “have another 30” in him.
“I’m gonna give ’em this year,” he vowed. “I’m gonna tour hard this year. But then I can’t promise anything after that.”

Trace Is Currently On His 30th Anniversary Tour
Adkins’ talk about retirement ties into the way he announced his 30th anniversary tour, which kicked off in January.
“As I embark on my 30th year of touring, I find myself in the single-digit percentile of artists. I am humbled that my fans and promoters have let me do this for so long. Hope to see you one more time in 2026,” Adkins said, as quoted by Music Row.
That “one more time” line certainly makes it sound like Adkins could retire this year. Or at least, he may scale back from intense touring.
Adkins’ retirement talk comes after one of his peers in the industry, John Michael Montgomery, retired at the age of 60. The “I Swear” singer performed his final show in 2025.
“It’s the same with any athlete, pro athlete, who’s been playing sports for years,” Montgomery told Taste of Country in December 2025. “They finally look in the mirror and realize it’s a young man’s game, and I’m not a young man anymore.“
Time will tell if Adkins will soon follow Montgomery’s lead. Or, he may pattern his career after George Strait, who retired from extensive touring a while ago but still performs at a handful of shows per year.

Whatever Adkins chooses to do with his future, we wish him the best!
