Terry Fator rose to fame after winning the second season of America’s Got Talent. He is arguably the most successful act to emerge from the show. He still performs today and even had his own theater in Las Vegas at The Mirage Hotel.
He currently performs at the STRAT Hotel for his One Man, a Hundred Voices, a Thousand Laughs! show. On August 24th, Fator will begin his On The Road Again tour. The tour name is a nod to his Willie Nelson puppet and iconic song “On The Road Again.”
Over the years, he has added many more puppets to his show, including “Winston, the Impersonating Turtle; Emma Taylor, “the little girl with the big voice”; Maynard Thompkins, the Elvis Impersonator; Duggie Scott Walker, the annoying neighbor, and; a host of famous singers, past and present,” according to his website.
One of his newer puppets is a Willie Nelson puppet, which makes sense since he named an entire tour after him!
Fator has previously performed a Willie Nelson tribute, but with his country-singing puppet, Walter T. Airdale.
In his latest YouTube video, posted on July 26, Fator covered Nelson’s iconic song “Always On My Mind.” Fator’s ability to do a celebrity singing impression is impressive enough, but add in the fact that he is a ventriloquist, his talent is unmatched.
Nelson did not write “Always On My Mind,” but he performs it as though he did. Brenda Lee first recorded “Always On My Mind” in 1972, but the song was first released by Gwen McCrae three months before Lee’s version. It has since been covered by over 300 artists such as John Wesley Ryles, Elvis Presley, and of course, Willie Nelson.
At the end of the song, Fator told the Nelson puppet, “Thank you, Willie,” to which Willie replied, “Aw, thank you so much.”
