Willie Nelson Joins Steve Perry For Reimagined Version Of “Faithfully” By Journey
Steve Perry enlisted country music icon Willie Nelson to help him remake one of Journey’s greatest hits, “Faithfully.”
“Faithfully” debuted in 1983 as the second single from Journey’s album Frontiers. The track was written solely by Jonathan Cain, the band’s keyboardist and rhythm guitar player.
The song follows a “music man” who struggles to balance the demands of his career with his duty to his family and relationship. The narrator (Perry) acknowledges how challenging it can be for someone like him to remain faithful while on tour. But he vows to his special someone that he is hers forever and faithfully.
“Faithfully” was a smash success upon its release. It reached the 12th spot on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart and claimed the same slot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. The track has since been certified 6× Platinum by the RIAA.

Now, 42 years after its release, Perry has debuted a new version of “Faithfully,” which features Willie Nelson. They re-recorded the track to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Nelson’s Farm Aid benefit concert. All proceeds generated from the song will go to Farm Aid.
Nelson opens the reimagined rendition, singing several lines solo before Perry joins in. They take turns trading lines as their divine duet continues, before finally singing together midway through the track.
“No one has a voice or vocal phrasing anything like Willie Nelson,” Perry said in a statement quoted by Rolling Stone. “Singing this duet with Willie has been something I’ve always wanted to do. After recording ‘Faithfully’ with Journey, I always felt it would be a great song for Willie too. What a wonderful experience it was to finally sing with Willie. I’m so proud of what we have accomplished together.”
Nelson shared his feelings about the duet, saying:
“Working with Steve Perry on ‘Faithfully’ was a meaningful experience. It was a pleasure to collaborate on this song. I’m proud that we could create something meaningful and use it to give back through Farm Aid.”

Willie Nelson Is “On The Road Again” In 2025
On top of planning Farm Aid’s 40th anniversary concert for September, Willie Nelson is “on the road again” this year. The 92-year-old singer is headlining the Outlaw Music Festival’s 10th Anniversary Tour.
In addition to Nelson, other acts on the lineup include Bob Dylan, Billy Strings, Sheryl Crow, the Turnpike Troubadors, and the Red Clay Strays.
The tour kicked off on May 13 and runs through September. Tickets can be purchased on the festival’s official website.
As if that wasn’t enough, Nelson just released a new album, Oh What A Beautiful World, on April 25. The album’s 12 tracks were all written by country singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell.
