Riley Keough Says Growing Up As A Member Of A Musical Family Helped Her Get Into Character For Daisy Jones & The Six

Riley Keough finally ended up going into “the family business” when she was cast in the musical miniseries Daisy Jones & The Six. For those who don’t know, the 34-year-old actress is Lisa Marie Presley’s eldest child…making her Elvis Presley’s granddaughter.

Unlike her famous mother and grandfather, Riley did not pursue music. She went into acting instead, and had roles in projects such as Mad Max: Fury Road and The Girlfriend Experience.

Then, Riley scored her biggest role to date in Daisy Jones & The Six. She played the titular Daisy Jones, a singer-songwriter in a fictional 1970s rock band.

Daisy’s love-hate relationship with the band’s frontman, Billy Dunne (played by Sam Claflin), results in the group creating their greatest music ever. It also results in the band’s eventual downfall.

Riley Was Nominated For An Emmy Award For Her Performance As Daisy Jones

Riley did all of her own singing for Daisy Jones & The Six, and learned to play guitar for the role. Her performance was highly praised, and even earned compliments from Stevie Nicks.

Additionally, Riley received two MTV Movie & TV Award nominations, a Golden Globe nomination, and an Emmy nomination for her performance. This marked her first time ever being nominated at the latter awards ceremony.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were held on Monday (January 15). The ceremony was originally slated for September 2023, but was delayed due to the strikes in Hollywood at the time.

Riley attended the ceremony with her grandmother Priscilla Presley.

While on the red carpet, Riley spoke with Laverne Cox during Live From E!: Emmys. During the interview, she shared how being Elvis’ granddaughter helped her prepare to play Daisy Jones:

I think I had an understanding of it, probably more so than your average person. But my whole family were musicians, so it’s a world I was very familiar with, I just had never tried myself to pursue music. It was such an incredible experience because it’s not often you get to learn an entire new skill set like as an adult.”

Riley’s family experience helped her turn in an extraordinary performance as Daisy Jones. Watch her in action in some of the shows’ musical scenes below.
