Meet Riley Keough, The Granddaughter Of Elvis Presley & Daughter Of Lisa Marie Presley – She’s A Golden Globe & Emmy-Nominated Actress With Several Notable Roles Under Her Belt

Riley Keough comes from one of the most famous families in the world. She’s the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, who was Elvis and Priscilla Presley‘s only child.

While her grandfather and mother were both singers, Riley chose a different path. She started working as an actress at the age of 20.

Riley now has an extensive filmography under her belt, having appeared in numerous films and TV series. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2017 and recently received her first Emmy nomination.

The Runaways (2010)

Riley’s first role was in the 2010 biopic The Runaways. The film chronicles the formation of the real-life rock band The Runaways with Joan Jett and Cherie Currie.

Kristen Stewart played Joan Jett, while Dakota Fanning portrayed Cherie Currie. Riley played Cherie’s twin sister Marie.

Speaking about the film years later with Vanity Fair, Riley said, “I think they thought I didn’t want to hang out, but I was just really nervous.” Now, Kristen is one of Riley’s closest friends.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

In 2015, Riley played the character Capable in Mad Max: Fury Road. Her co-stars included Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, and Zoë Kravitz (another good friend of hers).

“[It] was probably one of the most life-changing experiences of my life thus far” Riley told Vanity Fair.

Riley also met her husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, while working on Mad Max. He was a stuntman!

Dixieland (2015)

Also in 2015, Riley played the character Rachel in the crime drama movie Dixieland. Her co-stars were Chris Zylka, Spencer Lofranco, and country music artists Steve Earle and Faith Hill.

Dixieland was set in Mississippi, which was Elvis Presley’s home state. He was born in the city of Tupelo. Riley welcomed a daughter in 2022, and named her Tupelo in her grandfather’s honor.

The Girlfriend Experience (2016)

Riley’s first television role was in The Girlfriend Experience. She played Season 1’s lead character Christine Reade.

Her performance earned a wealth of praise, and led Riley to her first Golden Globe nomination. She was nominated in the Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film category.

Riley did not win the Golden Globe, but she did win a Gracie Award for her role.

Welcome the Stranger (2018)

Riley played the character Misty in the 2018 mystery thriller film Welcome the Stranger. She also served as the movie’s producer.

The cast was small, with Riley’s co-stars being Abbey Lee, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosemary Howard, and John Clofine.

Zola (2020)

Riley played Stefani in the 2020 comedy crime movie Zola. Her co-stars were Taylour Paige, Nicholas Braun, and Colman Domingo.

“...on the page the character was totally outrageous and [the movie’s director] Janicza [Bravo]…allowed me to go as far as I wanted, and didn’t kind of pull me back in, which was a really fun experience,” she told Vanity Fair.

The Terminal List (2022)

In 2022, Riley played main character Lauren Reece in the action thriller TV series The Terminal List. Chris Pratt plays the lead (and Lauren’s husband) James Reece.

Riley’s other co-stars in the show include Constance Wu, Taylor Kitsch, and Arlo Mertz.

Daisy Jones & The Six (2023)

Riley recently received tons of attention for her performance in the 2023 musical drama miniseries Daisy Jones & The Six. She played the lead character Daisy Jones, a troubled singer-songwriter who joins a rock band in the 1970s. Drama ensues as Daisy and the band’s frontman, Billy, develop a love-hate relationship.

Tapping into her family’s musical history, Riley performed all of her own songs in the series. She told Vanity Fair she spent a year working with vocal coaches and taking instrumental lessons to prepare for the role.

All of that hard work paid off, because Riley’s performance as Daisy led her to a Golden Globe nomination and her first Emmy nomination.

Up next, Riley will portray real-life novelist and writer Rebecca Godfrey in the crime drama miniseries Under the Bridge. Additionally, Riley will serve as the series’ executive producer.
