Will There Ever Be A Little House On The Prairie Reboot?

Fans of the Little House on the Prairie TV series would love for the show to get a reboot. But is that actually a possibility?

The beloved TV series, which starred Michael Landon (Charles “Pa” Ingalls), Melissa Gilbert (Laura Ingalls), Karen Grassle (Caroline “Ma” Ingalls), Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson), and Melissa Sue Anderson (Mary Ingalls), celebrates its 50th anniversary in September. But the cast has already started celebrating!

Grassle, Arngrim, and Anderson recently reunited with their former co-stars Matthew Labyorteaux, Leslie Landon, and Wendi Lou Lee at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco. The actors hosted a panel on June 15 to answer questions about the series…and a potential revival.

There was a report in 2020 that a Little House reboot was in the works. Arngrim addressed the rumor and made it known she was willing to participate.

But little came out of that report. So is a reboot still on the table? And what does the rest of the cast think about the idea?

The Answer To The Reboot Question…

Unfortunately, the cast doesn’t believe that a Little House reboot could work. Grassle addressed the possibility while speaking with PEOPLE at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. She said:

There have been lots of attempts to do a Little House on the Prairie again. There have been shows, there have been a musical, and I think we had a unique experience and it can’t be repeated.”

She doubled down, adding:

I don’t think you get to repeat this. This is it. And fortunately, it was television so they can just keep running it [as re-runs].”

Anderson also chimed in, saying how she believes a reboot wouldn’t work without Michael Landon (who died in 1991 at the age of 54). Little House works on television because of him,” she said.

But Arngrim echoed her previous sentiments, saying she’d love to be part of a reboot if one ever came to fruition.

I always joke that if they do redo the entire thing, I am ready to play Mrs. Oleson. Absolutely, I’m down for that,” she said.

While it seems like we won’t see a Little House reboot anytime soon, the original series is so good, it stands on its own. Which episodes are your all-time favorites?
