Grand Ole Opry Member Jamey Johnson Inks New Deal With Warner Music Nashville
Country music icon Jamey Johnson announced on Wednesday (October 2) that he has signed a new deal with Warner Music Nashville.
MusicRow reported on the news, stating that Johnson signed with Warner Music Nashville through his own record label, Big Gassed Records. Johnson provided a statement to the publication about the new partnership, saying:
“The reason I signed with Warner Music Nashville is [Co-Chair & Co-President] Cris Lacy. She is one of my longest-term friends I’ve had in the music business. We started our careers around the same time. She has been a friend to me and has only ever tried to help.”
The Grand Ole Opry member added:
“She cares about me being able to put out music. She cares that Iâm able to participate in my own career. Our conversations are unlike any other conversations I have had with any other label person.”

Lacy also shared a statement with MusicRow about Johnson’s signing with Warner Music Nashville. She said:
“For 14 years, those of us in the industry, and fans outside of it, have been begging Jamey Johnson to release another solo studio album. From day one, we heard the voice of a man driven by conviction, not commerciality. We saw in him our heroes like Johnny, Waylon and Merle. Warner Music Nashville has the great honor of reintroducing this incomparable artist to a worldwide audienceâ¦on his termsâ¦proof that great things are worth waiting for!“
Jamey Johnson Also Announces The Release Of A New Song This Friday, October 4
As Lacy mentioned, Johnson has not released a solo studio album in years. But, he’s slowly been releasing new music in recent months, including songs titled “Sober,” “What a View,” “21 Guns,” and “Trudy” (a collaboration with Randy Houser).
“Sober” is one of Johnson’s most powerful songs, as it focuses on the topic of sobriety. Johnson dedicated the track to “people who know the struggle.”

Now, Johnson is gearing up to release another new song, his first with Warner Music Nashville. Titled “Someday When I’m Old,” Johnson has been acquainted with the song for years. He first sang its demo recording 20 years ago, in 2004.
“It was the last demo I sang before I started working with BNA Records,” Johnson told MusicRow. “...When I heard the song, I thought, ‘Wow! That is a great song!’ That one seems to be exactly where I am right now, thinking about what is to come 20 years down the line, 30 years down the line, if I even make it that long.”

Johnson’s version of “Someday When I’m Old” will finally be released this Friday, October 4. Until then, enjoy another one of his newest songs, “Trudy,” in the clip below.
