Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood Perform At President Carter’s Funeral

President Jimmy Carter was honored in a formal service at the Washington National Cathedral on Thursday, January 9.
President Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th president of the United States, passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100.

Chip Carter, one of the former president’s sons, confirmed his passing to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, stating that he passed peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia. Chip also released the following statement on The Carter Center website:
“My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love. My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”
President Carter’s Life Will Be Memorialized In Several Ceremonies
According to the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region And The US Army Military District Of Washington, President Carter will have the following ceremonies;
- A departure ceremony at the U.S. Capitol
- A National Funeral Service at Washington National Cathedral
- A departure ceremony from Joint Base Andrews, Maryland
- An arrival ceremony at Lawson Army Airfield in Fort Moore, Georgia
- An arrival ceremony and private service at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia
- A procession through downtown Plains
- A private interment at Carterâs longtime residence
Carter’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers at the Washington National Cathedral and Maranatha Baptist Church ceremonies.
President Biden and all former living presidents were all in attendance.
The National Funeral Service at Washington National Cathedral included several musical performances, including “Tribute to God be the Glory,” “Let there be Peace on Earth,” “Fly Away,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “Climb Every Mountain,” sung by David Osborne, known as the “Pianist to the Presidents.”
Other performances included “The Road Home” by the Cathedral Choir, “Amazing Grace” by Phyllis Adams and Lelia Bolden of Song Rise to Thee, “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” by the U.S. Marine Orchestra and Armed Forces Chorus, and “Imagine“ by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

Garth Brooks And Trisha Yearwood Honor Their Longtime Friend
The country music couple performed The Beatles song “Imagine,” which they also performed at Rosalynn Carter’s funeral in 2023. Garth and Trisha had been friends with the Carters for many years, bonding over their shared passion for Habitat For Humanity.

For many years, they helped build homes alongside Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. Garth and Trisha continue their work even after both of their passings.
