Country Artists Participate In Memorial Day Tradition

For the past three decades, singers of all genres have come together for one important purpose. To honor America’s fallen heroes.

On the last Sunday in May, these artists come together to film what has become known as the National Memorial Day Concert. The free concert takes place on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. and airs on PBS.

In past years, country stars have often been asked to participate in the concert. Those who have songs dedicated to the military are even more likely to be invited, such as Trace Adkins.

The country superstar once appeared at the concert to sing his powerful song “Arlington,” which tells the story of a fallen Marine whose final resting place is in Arlington National Cemetery.

Another country artist who has participated in the National Memorial Day Concert in the past is Scotty McCreery. He has a song called “The Dash,” which tells the story of another fallen hero.

For 2019, it was Justin Moore who was called to participate in the concert as one of country music’s representatives. He performed his heartbreaking song “The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home,” which recognizes all military members, first responders, and others who never made it back home after just living their lives and doing their jobs.

Another member of the country music community who took part in the 2019 National Memorial Day Concert was Alison Krauss. The angel-voiced singer performed a fitting song for the occasion…the beloved Christian hymn “Amazing Grace.”

Bring On The Goosebumps

Krauss opened the performance by playing on her violin. It was so quiet in the crowd at the time that you could’ve heard a pin drop out there.

After her short instrumental solo, Krauss moved into singing. Her soft and gentle voice soared through the words with ease, and enchanted all who watched her.

At one point, the camera panned to a group of veterans in the crowd, who appeared to be in awe as they listened to Krauss sing in honor of their fallen brothers and sisters.

rauss’ performance grew more and more grand as it continued, with more instrumentals and eventually a backing choir jumping in to join her. This resulted in the last few lines of the song being the most powerful of all.

If you weren’t already covered in goosebumps by that point in the performance, those last lines are sure to get to you. Go ahead and watch Krauss honor our fallen heroes by watching her Memorial Day performance of “Amazing Grace” below.

She did such a stunning job with this…
