Wynonna Performs At The First People’s Choice Country Awards & Gets Recognized With A Special Honor
Wynonna got the chance to be part of history on Thursday night (September 28). She was one of the performers at the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards.
The ceremony aired on NBC and Peacock at 8/7c. It was held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, and Little Big Town hosted the event.
All awards were fan-voted, except for two. Those awards were the Country Icon Award and Country Champion Award, which went to Toby Keith and Wynonna, respectively.
Wynonna spoke with Taste of Country about the honor and additional recognition she’s received lately. She said:
“It’s so weird. I’ll be honest — and I’m sure some of them don’t know what I’ve done, and I have to remind myself there’s a whole new generation of people that don’t know your her-story. So it is nice to go out there and stomp around for a minute and remind them of who was boss.“
Watch Wynonna Sing At The People’s Choice Country Awards
As one of the night’s honorees, it only made sense to have Wynonna sing during the People’s Choice Country Awards. She performed after being introduced by Brothers Osborne, who celebrated her exceptional career.
Wynonna started off by singing her iconic solo hit “I Saw the Light.” The song reached the #1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart following its release in 1992.
From there, she shifted into a feisty performance of another one of her solo standouts, “No One Else on Earth.” It was also released in 1992, and it also hit #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
