Toby Keith’s Daughter Reacts To Him Being Named A Country Icon

Toby Keith’s daughter, Krystal, took to social media following Thursday night’s People’s Choice Country Awards to gush about her famous dad and his new title of Country Icon.

Thursday night was one for the books, as they say. Not only was Toby Keith recognized by the People’s Choice Country Awards as The Country Icon of 2023, but he also performed for the first time on television since his cancer diagnosis in late 2021.

Toby Keith’s return to the stage was an emotional moment for his fans and his family. The “Red Solo Cup” singer has been fighting a battle against stomach cancer sing the fall of 2021. Ahead of Thursday night’s awards show, Keith gave an up date on his health, telling Extra that he’s just “rockin’ and rollin’.”

“I’ve walked some dark hallways. The Almighty’s riding shotgun. But, I feel pretty good. You have good days and bad days. It’s a little bit of a roller coaster. But, I’m doing a lot better than I was this time last year,” Toby said.

When asked what has inspired him to stay strong, Toby credited his faith, saying, ” I’ve always wrote with a prayer and as long as I have Him with me, I’m cool. You just have to dig in. You don’t have a choice.”

During the show, Toby Keith’s fellow Oklahoman and good friend Blake Shelton had the honor of presenting him with the Country Icon Award.

Toby accepted the trophy and gave a short but sweet acceptance speech that started with a joke that he bet nobody ever expected to see him in skinny jeans. He then thanked “the Almighty,” his family and everyone who has played a role in his career, and finally his fans.

The love for Toby Keith was evident as he took the stage to perform his 2018 song “Don’t Let The Old Man In,” a song he wrote for Clint Eastwood. His wife was shown wiping away tears as he sang the emotional tune, and viewers were equally touched by the performance.

Following his People’s Choice Country Awards appearance, his daughter Krystal took to Instagram to honor her dad….HER icon.

Krystal Keith is one of Toby’s three children, and the only one to follow in her famous dad’s music footsteps. It’s clear that Krystal and her dad have a close bond, even outside of music.

“He has taught me everything, even things my mom tried hard to UNTEACH. He has been my lCON since day 1 and in the last 6 months he has been honored with not one but 2 Icon Awards for the work he dedicated his life to. I love that he is getting recognition as not just MY icon, but an Icon to the music industry and fans,” Krystal wrote before listing some of his many accomplishments. “He stuck to his guns and created a legendary, ICONIC career against all odds and wading through every kind of NO. I could not be more proud and in awe of him.”
