Waylon Jennings’ Brother Has Passed Away

The Jennings family is in mourning.
Tommy Jennings, who was one of Waylon Jennings‘ three brothers, has sadly passed away at the age of 80. Born August 8, 1938, Tommy was one year younger than the outlaw legend. Like his sibling, Tommy was a talented singer-songwriter.
Tommy had a couple hits of his own including “Make It Easy On Yourself,” “Don’t You Think It’s Time,” and “Just Give Me What You Think Is Fair”
Waylon also recorded a few songs Tommy wrote, most notably “Me & Them Brothers Of Mine,” which appeared on Waylon’s 1986 album Sweet Mother Texas and “Life Goes On.” Tommy recorded his own version of “Life Goes On” for a 2005 album.
Shooter, Waylon’s son with fellow outlaw legend Jessi Colter, confirmed the sad news of Tommy’s passing on Twitter and Instagram. He posted a photo of Tommy looking eerily similar to Waylon.
“Sad to see you go Tommy,” he wrote. “You were a blast to be around, wrote and sang some good songs and a page in history has turned. You and Bo were pillars in the Jennings family history and you’ll both be missed. At least y’all are hangin’ with dad cuttin’ up and drivin’ angels crazy.”
Last fall, Waylon’s son Terry, who passed in January, shared an awesome story about Waylon and Tommy on his Facebook page.
Before a show, Waylon was looking pretty scruffy, and so was his guitar, so his wife at the time bought him a brand-new white suit. Tommy cleaned his brother’s guitar for their show.
“After the the show, dad unstrapped his guitar and was surprised to see his new white suit had a big black [smudge] where his guitar was. It seems uncle Tommy had used shoe polish to clean dad’s guitar,” Terry wrote. “So most likely the first, but surely the last picture of dad wearing that white suit!”

Tommy’s death comes almost exactly a year after his and Waylon’s other brother Bo. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Jennings family as they mourn the loss of Tommy.
