Country Voice Duo Delivers Captivating Performance Lee Ann Womack’s Debut Single
A country duo on The Voice tossed a spotlight on a song that’s a hidden gem in Lee Ann Womack’s catalog. That song is “Never Again, Again.”
Womack released “Never Again, Again” in 1997 as her debut single. Written by Monty Holmes and Barbie Isham, the song peaked at the 23rd spot on the Hot Country Songs chart.
“Never Again, Again” put Womack on the map and paved the way for even bigger hits that followed, including “A Little Past Little Rock,” “I’ll Think of a Reason Later,” and “I Hope You Dance.”

As Womack’s career continued and she released more popular singles, “Never Again, Again” became a lesser-known piece in her discography. But Kelly Clarkson has always adored the song, which is why she was delighted when two of her Voice team members covered it for their battle performance.
Blaire Elbert and JW Griffin brought pure country vocals to their intoxicating cover of “Never Again, Again” during the battles for Season 29 of The Voice. The coaches were visibly impressed with their performance.
Viewers at home were equally enchanted. Complementary comments on the pair’s battle performance video include:
“Blaire and JW sound amazing together.”
“Great battle. That was so 50/50!!!!!“
“I am not a big country fan but they were sooooooo good.”
“Put that on the radio!“
“Great duo… I love the rasp… Great job to both… man great pair.“
Who Did Kelly Choose As The Winner Of The Battle? Blaire Elbert Or JW Griffin?
The duet earned a well-deserved standing ovation from all three coaches. The coaches could be heard praising the performance over the crowd’s applause, with Adam Levine saying, “That was amazing…“
When it was time for the coaches to share their commentary, Levine spoke first.
He told Elbert she sounded “really, really wonderful” before turning to Griffin and saying, “I want to own the records you haven’t made yet.”
John Legend echoed his fellow coach’s comments. He called Griffin “a very special vocalist.” Meanwhile, he expressed regret that he didn’t turn for Elbert during the blind auditions.
When it was Clarkson’s turn to speak, she let both singers know how proud she was. “I just thought you both blended so well…you also would make a really great duo.”
Unfortunately, Clarkson could only choose one artist to advance. It was a tough choice, but she ultimately named Griffin as the winner of the battle!
When explaining the reason for her decision in a post-battle chat, Clarkson said, “He opens his mouth, and you are just…at attention.”
