Reba McEntire took the stage during Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice to perform her latest single, “Seven Minutes In Heaven,” a powerful tribute to her late mother.

The first live performances of The Voice‘s 24th season took place this week. Not only were viewers treated to performances from the Top 12 contestants, but also from some of the show’s coaches.

During Tuesday’s episode (December 5), first-time Voice coach Reba McEntire swapped her red chair for a microphone to treat fans to a live performance of her tear-jerking hit, “Seven Minutes In Heaven.” The song was released earlier this year as a tribute to her mom, Jacqueline “Jackie” McEntire, who died in 2020 following a battle with cancer.

In the music video for the tune, Reba re-enacts the powerful lyrics and portrays what she would do if she had seven minutes to spend with her mom in heaven.

“The music video for ‘Seven Minutes In Heaven’ is just really sweet and simple,” she said. “We tried to imagine what it might be like to go to heaven and sit down with someone you’ve lost. The heartbreaker is that you only get to spend seven minutes with them. For me, that person is my Mama. I hope that the fans can imagine who that person is for them and find some comfort in knowing that someday, they’ll get to spend forever with that person they love.”

The emotion of the song clearly came through during Reba’s Voice performance that concluded with a black-and-white photo of her mom appearing behind her on stage. Reba choked up as she sang the final line, “If I had seven minutes in heaven, I’d spend them all with you.”

Reba turned to look at the photo of her mom on stage before saying, “Oh, I miss you mama.”

“Seven Minutes In Heaven” isn’t the first song Reba has released in honor of her mother.

A year after Jacqueline McEntire’s death, Reba released “You Never Gave Up On Me.” The video for the song opens with footage of Reba’s tearful Female Vocalist of the Year acceptance speech from the 1984 CMA Awards, where she dedicated the award to her mom. The rest of the video is filled with family pictures showing Jackie’s adoration for their children and their love for her.

Jackie also appeared in a music video with Reba prior to her death. In 2016, she joined her daughter in the video for “Just Like Them Horses,” a musical tribute to Reba’s dad, Clark, following his death. The entire video was filmed on the McEntire family’s land in Chockie, Oklahoma.
