Who is Mary Jane Thomas?
Mary Jane was born February 8, 1964, in Daytona Beach, Florida, to William Lee Thomas, III, and Ramona Blake Thomas.
The dark-haired beauty was described as being outgoing. In high school she competed in baton twirling competitions, was a cheerleader, and was Miss Spruce Creek High School 1982. Her love of the beach is what drove her to become a Hawaiian Tropic model – a job that eventually led to her meeting her husband.
How did Hank Williams Jr. and Mary Jane meet?
The couple reportedly met after a Hank Jr. concert in Washington in 1984. In a social media post, Hank Jr. recalled the day he met Mary Jane.
“On July 4th, 1984 I met a beautiful young lady in a Hawaiian Tropic bikini at a huge outdoor concert in Washington, D.C. She was 20 years old and drop-dead gorgeous! That’s the day my world changed forever.”

They started dating shortly after, and said “I do” in 1990.
According to The Orlando Sentinel, Hank and Mary Jane wed in the University Congregational Church near Hank’s Missoula, Montana, ranch. The modest event was only attended by roughly 50 close friends and family.
Mary Jane Thomas and Hank Williams Jr. share two children.
The couple are parents to a son and a daughter. Their daughter, Katherine Diane Williams-Dunning died in a tragic car accident in 2020 at the age of 27. She was married to Tyler Denning in 2015 and they were parents to two children – son Beau and daughter Audrey.
Mary Jane and Hank’s son, Sam Williams, followed in his famous dad and grandfather’s footsteps into the music industry. He released his debut album, Glasshouse Children, on August 20th, 2021 via Mercury Nashville.
What happened to Mary Jane Thomas?
Mary Jane Thomas passed away on March 22, 2022, at a Jupiter, Florida, hospital after suffering complications from cosmetic surgery. Her autopsy reported that she died of a collapsed lung that was accidentally punctured during surgery.
In her obituary she was remembered as a “world class hunter and a former big game record holder. She loved cooking and taking care of people. Mary Jane played many roles in life, daughter, sister, friend, aunt, wife, mother, and Mimi. She loved being all of these things but being a Mimi has brought her more joy than she could ever imagine.”
Mary Jane was married to Hank Williams Jr. nearly 32 years at the time of her death.
