16-Year-Old Voice Contestant Ruby Leigh Wows Coaches Once Again With Another Cover Of An Iconic Country Songs

Ruby Leigh earned a four-chair turn for her blind audition performance during Season 24. She performed her rendition of Patsy Montana’s classic song, “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart.”

16-year-old Ruby showcased her yodeling skills during the song, which wowed the coaches.

Ruby fittingly chose Reba McEntire as her coach. She went on to compete against her teammate Al Boogie in the battles, when they sang Dolly Paton‘s “Jolene.”

Reba chose Ruby as the winner of the battle, and she advanced to the knockouts. She competed against her teammates Ms. Monet and Rachele Nguyen.

During the knockouts, Ruby opted to cover another iconic country song, “Blue” by LeAnn Rimes.

Ruby is actually older than LeAnn was when she recorded “Blue.” LeAnn was only 13 years old when she recorded the song for her debut album, also titled Blue.

“Blue” reached the 10th spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and crossed over to claim the 26th spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. It has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Because “Blue” is a dynamic song, it’s not an easy one to sing. But Ruby rose to the challenge, and excelled.

“Blue” gave Ruby the perfect opportunity to showcase her depth and tone. It also gave her the chance to throw in some of her signature yodels, which clearly captivated the coaches.
