Al Boogie And Ruby Leigh Perform “Wonderful” Version Of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” During Voice Battles

For her first-ever Voice battles, new coach Reba McEntire paired two country singers together on an iconic country song. That song was Dolly Parton‘s “Jolene.”

The two members of Team Reba tasked with singing the tune were Al Boogie and Ruby Leigh.

During the blind auditions, Al landed on Team Reba after she was the only coach to turn her chair for his version of Joe Diffie‘s “Pickup Man.” Ruby, on the other hand, choose Reba as her coach after turning all four chairs with her yodel-infused cover of Patsy Montana’s “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart.”

After watching Ruby’s audition, Reba immediately knew she wanted to hear her sing “Jolene.” As she was thinking of who could be her duet partner in the battles, Al came to mind.

Reba’s choice to pair up Al and Ruby was an excellent one. They had the coaches hooked on their every word from start to finish.

After the performance, the coaches heaped praise on the two singers. Though it soon became clear that everyone felt Ruby was the winner of the battle.

I forgot you were sixteen Ruby,” said Gwen Stefani. “Just the way your presence is on stage. You just didn’t look like a teenager, you didn’t sound like a teenager.”

Addressing Ruby, Reba told her, “You performed magnificently, you made me very proud.”

As for Al, Reba said, “You stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the ballpark.”
