The world was introduced to the beloved television show Reba in 2001. Centered around country legend Reba McEntire, the show followed her character, Reba Hart, as she goes through a divorce, deals with her ex-husband’s mistress who just so happens to be pregnant with his child, her pregnant teenage daughter, live-in son-in-law, and her two other children.

The show was perfectly cast with actors who played off each other extremely well and had great chemistry.  One of the standout actors from the series was Melissa Peterman, who played ditzy, but lovable Barbara Jean – the dental hygienist Reba’s husband left her for. Reba and Barbara Jean have their squabbles but at the end of the day – and the show – they are the best of friends.

What makes their television relationship even better is that the two are still great friends to this day. Peterman and McEntire hang out all the time, and the former even supported the latter when she was an honoree at the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors.

When McEntire needed writers to help her come up with jokes for her hosting duties at the ACM Awards in the beginning of April, she turned to her good friend – and it was one of her best shows yet!

Now, Peterman is likely turning to McEntire for support as she and her family are mourning a heartbreaking loss. The Baby Daddy alum revealed on Instagram that her beloved dog, Lady Janet Alabama Jessie James La Premiere or “Janet” for short, had passed away.

She and her husband adopted her 16 years ago from the Pasadena Humane Society when she was just 12 weeks old and has been part of her family longer than her son has been alive.

She was our first baby, the four legged one who two years later welcomed our 2 legged one into the pack and even though he cried a lot and took our attention, she was patient and good and slept under his crib and let me know when he was awake. She loved him and us unconditionally,” the actress wrote.

She continued, “My heart hurts but I am grateful that she came into our family because the truth is we didn’t rescue her, she rescued us. Goodbye Sweet Janet.”
