Randy Travis Releases New Music 12 Years After His Near-Fatal Stroke

In 2013, Randy Travis’ music career was put on hold after suffering a severe stroke that affected his ability to speak and walk.

Since then, he hasn’t released new music due to ongoing speech challenges. Over the years, he has only shared older recordings, which consist of mostly covers made before his health struggles.

That changed in 2024 when Randy Travis officially announced his return to country music, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

He released his single “Where That Came From,” with the help of another artist, and then used AI technology to recreate his voice from past recordings.

Randy Travis Drops New Single “Horses In Heaven”

On Friday, January 31, Randy Travis released his new single, “Horses In Heaven.” Just days before its debut, he took to social media to share the news, expressing how deeply personal the song is to him. In his statement, Travis reminisced about his cherished childhood memories of riding horses.

“After my last release I told you there would be more where that came from, and I’m excited to jump back in the saddle and release a brand-new recording, “Horses In Heaven,” Travis wrote. “I still remember the first time I stepped into those stirrups as a little boy, and my horses have been family to me ever since.”

The song took on a whole new meaning for Travis shortly before its release. He was heartbroken to hear about the devastating aircraft collision near Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (January 29). The crash, which involved an American Airlines passenger plane and an Army Black Hawk helicopter, is believed to have claimed the lives of 67 individuals. Some of the victims have been identified, but recovery efforts are still underway in the Potomac River, where both aircraft crashed after impact.

Additionally, Ben Vaughn, the President/CEO of Warner Chappell Nashville, recently passed away at the age of 49.

After so much heartache, Travis announced he still wanted to move forward with releasing “Horses In Heaven” as planned. He said:

“Tomorrow’s song release, ‘Horses In Heaven’ feels like a timely reminder of God’s love and mercy and I hope it brings some comfort to those of us hurting through these tragedies. We have decided to continue with this release and promotion of it, but felt remiss to not share what’s on my heart right now… God Bless Ben, the victims of last night’s crash and all who are feeling the heaviness of this moment.”
