Teaming up for a televised performance in 2006, Randy Travis and Josh Turner performed each other’s songs, including Travis’ “Diggin’ Up Bones.”
Between 2006-2007, CMT aired four specials titled CMT Cross Country.
The special allowed two artists to come together and perform each other’s hit songs, much like CMT Crossroads. In Crossroads, one act is country, and the other comes from a different genre, whether pop, rock, rap, R&B, or gospel.
Episodes of CMT Cross Country featured pairings of Josh Turner and Randy Travis, Alison Krauss and Vince Gill, John Anderson and Big & Rich, and Jack Ingram and Miranda Lambert.
It made perfect sense for Turner and Travis to kick this series off based solely on the fact that Turner had looked up to Travis for so long. Before they began performing “Diggin’ Up Bones,” the “Long Black Train” singer told the legend that the first song she ever performed on stage was “Diggin’ Up Bones.”
