Randy Travis Released A New Song In 2024 Thanks To AI

A recent post shared on Randy Travis‘ social media pages suggests the country music legend has new music in the works.

Travis suffered a stroke in 2013 that severely affected his ability to walk, speak, and sing. While he can walk with assistance, his voice still isn’t strong enough to allow him to sing a full song.

We have heard Travis sing a line or two over the years, including the final “Amen” in his own hit, “Forever and Ever, Amen,” and the lyrics of “Amazing Grace.”

Thanks to the rapid and recent development of artificial intelligence (AI), Travis got his voice back. Last year (2024), he released a new song using AI.

Another singer helped record the track, titled “Where That Came From.” Then, AI was used to take Travis’ voice from his past recordings and overlay it onto the new one.

“Randy’s on the other side of the microphone…It’s still his vocal,” Cris Lacy, the co-chair and president of Warner Music Nashville, told CBS Sunday Morning. “…There’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to make music. … And to deprive him of that, if he still wants to do that, that’s unconscionable to me.”

Travis’ family and friends teared up when they heard “Where That Came From” for the first time.

Randy Travis Seems To Tease New Track, “Horses In Heaven”

Nearly 12 years after his stroke, Travis is currently on tour.

While Travis is not singing himself, he enlisted the help of his friend, singer James Dupré, to perform all of his signature songs. Travis’ original backing band accompanies Dupré onstage.

In the midst of his travels, Travis is working on something new for his fans. His team recently shared a social media post that makes it obvious he’s preparing new music. “Spending time on the road this year has been exciting, but Randy is working on something special for you down at the ranch…” his team captioned a slideshow of photos.

The last picture was clearly taken in a recording studio. It features a piece of paper with what appears to be a song title written at the top, “Horses in Heaven.” It’s unclear if this is an original or a cover of the Kylie Frey and Randy Houser song of the same title.

Fans rejoiced in the comments, writing:

“A new song?!?!”

“omg new music?”

“I see a new song in the works!”

“There will never be another Randy Travis!!!”

“…can’t hardly wait for what he is working on.”

“Now I want to hear the song.”
