Where Did The Rumors Of A Presley Family Feud Originate?

Priscilla Presley passionately denies any report claiming that she and her granddaughter, Riley Keough, have ever been at odds.

Priscilla was married to Elvis Presley from 1967 to 1973. During that time, they welcomed their first and only child, a daughter they named Lisa Marie.

Elvis died in 1977, and Priscilla eventually became the executor of his estate, which was placed in a trust for Lisa Marie.

Lisa Marie welcomed four children of her own: daughters Riley, Harper, and Finley, and son Benjamin (who died in 2020). Sadly, Lisa Marie died in 2023 due to a small bowel obstruction caused by complications from bariatric surgery. She was only 54 years old.

After Lisa Marie’s death, reports surfaced that a feud had ignited between her mother, Priscilla, and oldest daughter, Riley. They were involved in some legal entanglements regarding Lisa Marie’s trust, but eventually reached a settlement that pleased both parties.

Riley, an actress known for roles in Daisy Jones & The Six and Mad Max: Fury Road, was named the sole heir of Graceland and her mom’s estate. She also oversees the sub-trusts established for her teenage twin sisters, Harper and Finley.

Priscilla and Riley denied reports that the legal back-and-forth led to an estrangement. “Riley and I are on good terms. We were never not on good terms,” Priscilla told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2023.

The pair further squashed rumors of a feud when they presented a united front at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2024.

Priscilla Presley Shares Where Her Relationship With Granddaughter Riley Keough Stands Now

Priscilla Presley released a new memoir, Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis, on September 23, 2025. As part of the promotion for the book, she sat down with PEOPLE for a lengthy, tell-all interview.

During their conversation, Priscilla dismissed many “untruthful” things she’s heard about her family over the years, including the theories that Elvis is still alive. She also clarified where she stands with Riley today, and slammed reports of a feud.

Riley and I have never had a problem,” she said. “I just have one battle, and that’s with a certain person.”

PEOPLE details how that “certain person” may be Priscilla’s former business partner, Brigitte Kruse. Brigitte and another former business partner, Kevin Fialko, are suing Priscilla for $50 million. They’ve accused Priscilla of fraud and breach of contract.

Kevin and Brigitte’s lawsuit also claims that Priscilla and Riley started to resent each other after Lisa Marie died. Priscilla and Riley denied these claims, releasing a joint statement on September 5 calling them “untrue” and “deeply hurtful.

Instead, Priscilla says she and Riley maintain a “very close” relationship. She enjoys visiting her family, as Riley and her husband, Ben, have welcomed two children.

I love her babies,” Priscilla said. “I’m really happy for Riley. She’s got an amazing husband and two great children, so I’m happy for her very much.
