Old Video Shows Toby Keith Singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” At His Son’s Wedding

Toby Keith’s Only Son, Stelen Covel, Got Married In 2021
A wedding singer who got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have Toby Keith join him on stage recently posted an old video of their performance.
Toby shared three children with his wife of nearly 40 years, Tricia Covel. They had two daughters, Shelley and Krystal, and one son, Stelen.
Shortly before Stelen married his longtime love, Haley, in November 2021, Toby learned some scary news. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
As Toby shared during an appearance on Audacy’s Katie & Company in December 2023, he worried he wouldn’t live long enough to see his son get married. That weighed on him, especially since he promised Haley he’d walk her down the aisle.
“And my son was getting married, and his wife didn’t have a father. And she asked my son, Stelen, if I’d walk her down the aisle. I said ‘sure.’ And now I’m a month away from that, and I’m thinking ‘I might not even make it that far.’ I didn’t know, you know? When you get diagnosed, you just freak.”
Thankfully, Toby made it, and he fulfilled his promise to Haley. He bravely battled cancer for three years before he passed away on February 5, 2024.
Toby Keith Sang A Classic John Denver Song At His Son’s Wedding
John Allred is a wedding singer based out of Santa Monica, California. He traveled to perform at Stelen and Haley’s wedding in 2021, which was held outside of Las Vegas.
While looking through old videos, John found a clip of Toby Keith singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” with him at Stelen’s wedding. He recently shared the clip on social media, captioning it:
“Singing some ‘Country Roads’ with Toby Keith at his kid’s wedding. The perks of being a wedding singer. This was about a year before he passed. RIP. Incredible voice.”
The video shows Toby singing his heart out as he leaned into the microphone to sing the classic John Denver tune. While this memory was already special to John (the wedding singer), he treasures it on an even deeper level now since Toby is no longer with us.
“Used to not post these things,” John wrote in the video’s comments section on TikTok. “But over time, this has become such a special moment. He said really meaningful things to me.“
Toby’s fans thanked John for sharing such a special memory. It gives everyone one more thing to remember Toby by, adding further to his legacy.
