Kris Kristofferson Was Married To His Wife, Lisa Meyers, For 41 Years Before His Death

When country music legend and actor Kris Kristofferson died, he left behind his beloved children and grandchildren, and his devoted wife, Lisa Meyers.

Kris was married three times over the course of his life. He first wed Frances Beer in 1961, and they divorced eight years later. He married his second wife, singer Rita Coolidge, in 1973, and they divorced seven years later.

Shortly after his divorce from Rita, Kris met Lisa Meyers at a gym in Malibu, California, in 1982. They married in February 1983 and were together for over 41 years before Kris passed away on September 28, 2024, at the age of 88.

How Did Kris Kristofferson Meet Lisa Meyers?

According to PEOPLE, Lisa was a law student at Pepperdine University when Kris met her in 1982. The Highwaymen member and A Star Is Born actor told PEOPLE how he devised a “ploy” to talk to Lisa by asking if he could borrow a piece of equipment.

At the time, I was gun-shy about any relationship heavier than a one-night stand. The road had been my escape, going out and pouring it all into performing,” Kris recalled. “[But] as my family started getting bigger, it finally beat its way into my consciousness: ‘Wake up, man. This is what really matters.'”

Kris and Lisa eventually welcomed five children together, who joined Kris’ three older kids from his previous marriages. They raised their kids at their home in Hawaii, which Kris said was “the best move [he] ever made.

Lisa Supported Kris Through His Health Struggles

Kris struggled with his health later in life and was incorrectly diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. His diagnosis was eventually corrected, as it was discovered he actually had Lyme disease instead.

Lisa supported him through the good times and the bad. She told HuffPost in 2016:

The more we can get Kris to laugh, the healthier he is. Being on the road, the laughter, the music. It’s great medicine.”

She continued, “That’s just how it is. He is right here, right now. We’re jamming with it. It’s such a weird, beautiful journey.”

Lisa was a constant source of support in Kris’ life, and he loved her for that. Speaking about his and Lisa’s relationship during an interview with NPR in 2018, Kris said:

I’ve had a life of all kinds of experiences – most of them good. And I’ve got eight kids; and a wife that puts up with everything I do, and keeps me out of trouble.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Lisa and to all of Kris’ loved ones during this difficult time.
