Not Only Did She Win, But She Did It In Style

With the ACM Awards quickly approaching on May 8th, it is time to remember one of the best, Loretta Lynn. The “You’re Looking at Country” singer was the first woman ever to win an ACM Entertainer Of The Year award.

Not only was she the first woman to win the ACM Entertainer Of The Year, but she was also the first woman to win the CMA Entertainer Of The Year!

She won the CMA award first in 1972 and received the trophy in a stunning green dress. During her speech, she joked that the only thing that made her sad was that her husband was out hunting and could not be there that night.

With a big smile and a nonchalant attitude, she made history.

The ACMs are about to hold their 60th annual award show. Over the last 60 years, 10 women have taken home the coveted trophy. Those women are Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntireShania Twain, The Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Lainey Wilson.

The first to ever do it was the iconic Loretta Lynn who won the award over Mel Tillis, Conway Twitty, Mickey Gilley, and Marty Robbins.

She accepted her award in her true, genuine, and nonchalant attitude by pointing out that the ACM awards were so unorganized at the time that she did not know she was nominated. She said,

“I wish I had things together because I didn’t know I was nominated. But I’d like to say, but I sure am proud. I want to thank all of you. I love all of you very much, thank you.”

Lynn has won many infamous awards in her day, but this one paved the way for women in Country Music. Watch her acceptance speech below.
