Lisa Marie Presley Describes Her Struggles With Addiction In Posthumous Memoir

Lisa Marie’s Addiction
Elvis Presley’s daughter began taking opioids to manage the pain from her C-section for her now sixteen-year-old twin daughters. Then, according to the book, “she progressed to taking them to sleep.”Â
Her opioid addiction was surprising to those who knew and loved Lisa Marie because she would refrain from taking Advil or Tylenol, which are minor painkillers.
The addiction escalated to a point where Lisa Marie said she was taking “80 pills a day” because “It took more and more to get high.” Marie refers to her drug use as being “recreational” at the beginning until it one day became the addiction that it was. In her own words:
“It was an absolute matter of addiction, withdrawal in the big leagues,” she writes. “I just wanted to check out. It was too painful to be sober.”
Lisa Marie was eventually hospitalized for the addiction, where she then went to court-ordered rehab. During that time, she decided to get bariatric surgery, which eventually led to her untimely death. She finally kicked the addiction after a seizure and a second stint of rehab.
âI think having two family members who have passed away, a lot of that time and grief has been spent wondering about where they are, and I think that the perspective that I choose to have is that they’re on to a sort of new adventure.”
