When Kenny Rogers retired in 2017, fans assumed they would hear little, if anything, from the 81-year-old music legend. So when Rogers announced on Wednesday (October 23) that he was releasing a new song, fans were quite surprised.
The song, titled “The Gospel Truth,” was co-written by Rogers and is his first new release in four years. CMT reports the song was originally meant to be included on his 2011 album, The Love of God, but didn’t make the cut.
Now, the previously unheard song appears on Rogers’ new, deluxe edition of The Love of God, which was released on all digital platforms on October 25.
Rogers’ The Love of God contains hymns and faith-based songs that have influenced him throughout his life. It features several collaborative tracks, with contributions coming from artists such as Point of Grace and The Whites.
The deluxe edition of the album includes a new collaborative piece…the previously unreleased “The Gospel Truth.” Rogers’ longtime friends The Oak Ridge Boys offered their voices to the track.
Even though they have been friends for years, “The Gospel Truth” is the first studio recording Rogers and The Oaks have ever done together.
“Nobody does it like The Oaks and nobody does it better,” Rogers wrote in a post on Facebook. “Having this song we recorded together is special to me..our history, our friendships run deep!“
The song features Rogers on the verses, while The Oaks bring their signature harmonies to the chorus. It has a bit of a funk-like vibe to it, and is sure to have you grooving along in your seat within seconds.
Go ahead and listen to Rogers and The Oaks spread “The Gospel Truth” by tuning in to the clip below. We’re so glad this song was finally released after being hidden for eight years!
