Morgan Wallen Placed On Six-Week Vocal Rest

Morgan Wallen had some “bad news” to share on Tuesday (May 9). The ACM Entertainer of the Year nominee learned he is suffering from vocal fold trauma. His doctors have advised him to go on a six-week vocal rest.

“After taking 10 days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida. By the third one I felt terrible, so I went in and got scoped yesterday,” Wallen said in a video he shared on social media. “They told me that I re-injured by vocal cords and that I have vocal fold trauma. Their advice is that I go on vocal rest for six weeks, so that’s what I’m going to do,” Wallen told fans.

The news comes after Wallen previously canceled his show at Ole Miss minutes before he was supposed to take to the stage. He also cited vocal issues as the reason for that cancellation. Wallen postponed three additional shows before he returned for three concerts in Florida.

Because of his vocal rest, Wallen had to cancel his performance at the ACM Awards (on May 11) and several upcoming festivals. At least two of those festivals have since found a new artist to fill his headlining slot.

A Little Help From Kenny Chesney

It turns out that Kenny Chesney is stepping up to replace Wallen as the headliner at the Gulf Coast Jam and the Carolina Country Music Fest. The former performance is on June 3, and the latter is on June 10.

Gulf Coast Jam COO Mark Sheldon said, “We are just as sad as everyone else, as our families were as excited as your families to see Morgan Wallen. We pray he gets well soon, and we hope to see him in Panama City Beach in the near future.”

Carolina Country Music Fest also released a statement about Wallen’s need to cancel his appearance. They said:

We are disappointed, as we were excited to host Wallen at CCMF, again, just as much as everyone wants to see him perform. [Festival producers are] working to reschedule Morgan at CCMF for our 2024 dates and we wish him a speedy recovery. Please be patient with us as we work quickly to update the line up.”

Chesney is currently on the last leg of his I Go Back Tour. The tour wraps up on May 27, so the new festival appearances fall right after the tour’s end.

Chesney recently invited his mom, Karen Chandler, onstage to sing “half of my hometown” with him and Kelsea Ballerini. Watch that video below.

We’re sorry to hear about Wallen’s vocal rest. We wish him the best in his recovery.
