How Reba Honored Her Late Parents With Her Super Bowl Outfit

On Sunday night (Feb 11), Reba McEntire performed the national anthem before Super Bowl LVIII kicked off.

She became the 10th country singer to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” in the history of the Super Bowl. The first country singer to do so was Charley Pride in 1974.

In recent years, the NFL has stuck with the country genre, with Eric Church performing the song in 2021, Mickey Guyton singing it in 2022, and Chris Stapleton’s memorable performance in 2023. Stapleton’s rendition was so powerful, the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach Nick Sirianni was in tears.

This year was no different. Due to the magnitude of the game and the emotions that come with it, Chiefs’ Defensive Tackle Chris Jones was spotted shedding tears during the performance.

Reba delivered a nearly flawless anthem performance.

The country legend proved she was the perfect pick for the job by offering a classic rendition of the anthem. She changed it up just slightly by adding a few vocal riffs, but she did stay true to the original and let the lyrics speak for themselves. It is clear the crowd in the stadium loved her performance and fans praised her performance online!

One thing fans noticed was her wardrobe. She was wearing embroidered jeans, a black top, and tan blazer. She accessorized with a gorgeous belt buckle that we now know has some sentimental history behind it.

While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in the days leading up to her performance, McEntire revealed to her that she would be wearing her late father’s 1961 Championship rodeo belt buckle and her late mother’s bracelet. The bracelet was one that her father gave her mother before he passed away in 2014.

Rodeo – and singing the national anthem – is in Reba’s blood.

Reba’s family connection to the rodeo runs deep. Reba’s dad, Clark McEntire, was a world champion steer roper in 1957, 1958 and 1961, while her grandfather, John, held the same title in 1937! Reba herself was a barrel racer and was actually discovered while singing the national anthem at the National Finals Rodeo. Shortly after, she had a record deal and was on her way to becoming the legend she is today.

We’re sure having her parents with her at such a big moment in her life and career was so special for Reba, and e know her parents, Clark and Jacqueline, were looking down on her from Heaven with pride.
