Dolly Parton Celebrates Her 79th Birthday On January 19, 2025
Country music superstar Dolly Parton will celebrate her 79th birthday on January 19, 2025. She was born as the fourth of her parents’ 12 children in their one-room cabin in Pittman Center, Tennessee.
The Partons were poor, so they used a sack of cornmeal to pay the doctor who delivered Dolly. That doctor, named Robert F. Thomas, now has a chapel dedicated to him in Dolly’s Dollywood theme park.

Dolly expressed a love for music at a young age. She released her first song, “Puppy Love,” when she was only 13 years old. She wrote the song with her Uncle Bill Owens when she was 11.
Now, Dolly is one of the most recognizable and beloved singers in the world. Beyond that, she’s known for her roles in films such as The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, 9 to 5, and Steel Magnolias.
Dolly is also known for her philanthropy. She founded the Imagination Library program and donates to many other charitable causes.
Grand Ole Opry Reveals Plans To Celebrate Dolly’s Big Day
Dolly became a member of the Grand Ole Opry on January 4, 1969, just days before her 23rd birthday. So, for decades now, her birthday and Opry anniversary celebrations have gone hand in hand.
The Opry recently revealed their plans to celebrate Dolly’s fast-approaching 79th birthday.
“It’s the Queen of Countryâs 79th birthday, and weâre celebrating in style!” the Opry announced. “Opry Goes Dolly returns January 18th featuring photo ops, specialty drinks, and MORE. While Dolly won’t be there in person, we’re honoring her with tributes throughout our FIRST Opry 100 show at the Opry House.“
The Opry is celebrating a major birthday of its own in 2025. The year marks the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1925, originally as the WSM Barn Dance. Writing about Dolly’s birthday celebration, the Opry said:
“It’s the perfect way to kick off our Opry 100 celebration and pay tribute to a true icon. $5 from every ticket sold upon announce goes back to Dolly Partonâs Imagination Library.“
