George Strait is a longtime supporter of law enforcement, and a recent award from the Texas Municipal Police Association recognized him for it.

In a post made to social media by the Texas Municipal Police Association, they announced that George Strait has been named an Honorary Lifetime Member. The honor was bestowed upon Strait in part because of his powerful song, “Weight Of The Badge.”

The announcement read, “Country music legend George Strait has been named an Honorary Lifetime Member of TMPA (Texas Municipal Police Association)! His powerful song #WeightOfTheBadge inspired us all, and his unwavering support for law enforcement truly is amazing! We are grateful for his contributions to our law enforcement community, our nation, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.”

The TMPA followed up with a good-natured jab at CMT, saying: “Don’t worry CMT…the entire country knows “The King” supports Law Enforcement!”

The CMT shout-out is likely in reference to the network’s reaction to Jason Aldean’s music video for “Try That In A Small Town” that shows support for law enforcement.

The photo shows Strait proudly holding his honorary certificate and police badge.

Written by George Strait, Bubba Strait, and Dean Dillon, “The Weight of This Badge” gives a glimpse into the lives of first responders and their passion for their occupation. The accompanying video for the song displays the harsh realities that police officers, first responders ,and their families face every day.

“The men and women in this music video are our friends and neighbors who carry the weight of the badge each day,” says Strait in the video. “Thank you. We appreciate you and the sacrifices you and your families make.”

Another of George Strait’s songs was used as a recruiting tool for a Texas police department.

In 2022, the City of Southlake Department of Security created a parody video of George Strait’s “Amarillo By Morning” encouraging people to apply for a job with the department.

“SOUTHLAKE POLICE ARE HIRING! Looking for a great career, great benefits, great pay, AND a $10,000 hiring incentive? By George, we have TWO tests in the next two months to get your chance!” the caption reads above a video that shows a George Strait lookalike singing the parody.
