George Strait And Chris Stapleton Treat Crowd To “Amarillo By Morning” Duet As Rain Pours In Nashville

George Strait and Chris Stapleton performed in Nashville’s Nissan Stadium on Friday (July 29) and Saturday (July 30). Despite being sweltering hot, Friday’s show went off without a hitch.

But Saturday’s concert had to end early due to severe storms in the area. Strait was nowhere near finished with his setlist at the time, and hadn’t performed one of his biggest hits,”Amarillo by Morning.”

Knowing how much the fans would miss hearing the song, Strait began singing “Amarillo by Morning” as it started to rain. And by rain, we mean it POURED.

How Fans Reacted When The Downpour Started As George & Chris Sang

To make things even more epic, Strait had Stapleton join him for a rainy duet. Despite the downpour, many fans stuck around to watch the two country superstars sing “Amarillo by Morning.”

Several attendees shared videos of the performance on social media. One Twitter user said:

“George Strait got cut short in Nashville tonight, but as the storm moved in and people were filing out he got the band to play Amarillo by Morning, the song that made so many of us fans. Favorite song, favorite singer, in the pouring rain, in my hometown. Core memory.”

Alan Jackson‘s eldest daughter, Mattie, attended the show with her husband, Connor. She shared their experience, saying:

While the ending to the night was farrrrrr less than ideal, I did at least get to dance with this sexy cowboy to my fav @georgestrait song. Just didn’t know we’d be the ones to run (in the rain) and cut a path across Broadway.”
