Dwight Yoakam Apologizes For Show Delay Due To Issue With His Plane
Dwight Yoakam‘s plane experienced a scary “mechanical failure” shortly before takeoff on Thursday (February 12). This issue delayed Yoakam’s show in Lubbock, Texas, and he has since apologized.
Yoakam shared a statement on Monday (February 16) about the delay in Lubbock. He apologized for the fact that the circumstances surrounding his delayed arrival were not properly communicated to his audience. Instead of someone appearing onstage to explain the delay, there was a “vague anonymous PA announcement about a flight delay.”
To set the record straight, Yoakam explained exactly what happened.
“What actually happened Thursday afternoon was that we had an emergency takeoff abort as the aircraft was about to lift off from the runway due to a mechanical failure warning in the cockpit.”
Fortunately for them, the pilots handled everything with precision and care. “…they were able to avoid anything more dangerous or catastrophic occurring,” Yoakam said.
Once they determined the problem couldn’t be fixed, Yoakam and the other passengers transferred to another plane. This resulted in Yoakam taking to the stage in Lubbock about an hour and a half past his scheduled time.
The “Ain’t That Lonely Yet” singer apologized to his fans for the inconvenience and lack of proper communication. “I am very sorry for any frustration and disappointment the delay caused,” Yoakam wrote.
Yoakam’s fans were incredibly forgiving. They were simply glad to hear that he and everyone else on the plane were safe. Because from the sound of it, things could have been far worse.

Dwight Answered A Call From Billy Bob Thornton During Another Recent Show
On January 28, Yoakam headlined a benefit concert to help The Children’s Hospital of L.A. In addition to Yoakam, other artists on the lineup included Charley Crockett, Marcus King, and Lukas Nelson.
Billy Bob Thornton, who famously co-starred in the movie Sling Blade with Yoakam, was supposed to make a special appearance at the event. But Thornton got stuck in New Jersey due to bad weather.
Still, Thornton wanted to check in with Yoakam and the crowd. So he called Yoakam in the middle of his show!
Yoakam was mid-song when his wife came onstage with the phone. Thornton was on the other end!
Thornton was on a video call, so the audience could clearly see his face on the screen as he talked to his old pal. He explained why he couldn’t make it to the show, and applauded everyone for helping Yoakam raise funds for such a worthy cause.
“Anyway, I just wanted to say that for the Children’s Hospital of L.A., this is a great thing that you are doing,” Thornton said. “…Thank you all for showing up for this cause, because that’s what we’re here for. We are here to help the future generation.”
