Landman Star Billy Bob Thornton Interrupts Dwight Yoakam’s Show With FaceTime Call

Picture this, you’re at a Dwight Yoakam concert, when suddenly, he brings the show to a halt to answer a phone call…from Billy Bob Thornton!

That’s exactly what happened during the Dwight Yoakam & Friends: Rockin’ for the Kids benefit concert for The Children’s Hospital of L.A. on January 28. The show featured performances from Yoakam, Charley Crockett, Marcus King, and Lukas Nelson.

Thornton was supposed to be at the show. But winter weather left him trapped in New Jersey (where he was filming a movie), and he couldn’t make it out to Los Angeles.

Yoakam was singing “What Do You Know About Love” when his wife, Emily Joyce, caught his attention. He paused the show to answer the phone, which had Thornton on the other end.

An attendee near the stage filmed the interaction and shared the video on YouTube. The attendee was close enough to see Thornton on Yoakam’s phone and hear everything he said.

Hey, man. What are you doing?” Yoakam asked the Landman star. It seems he hadn’t been expecting his call! “You’re supposed to be here, but where are you?…New Jersey? Bro, are you in your hotel room or are you outside?…Mr. Thornton…is stuck in New Jersey in the ice storm. He’s in a hotel in his coat.”

Since Thornton couldn’t make it, he wanted to call Yoakam and highlight the great work he was doing through his benefit show.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that for the Children’s Hospital of L.A., this is a great thing that you are doing,” Thornton said. “…Thank you all for showing up for this cause, because that’s what we’re here for. We are here to help the future generation.”

Yoakam And Thornton Co-Starred In Sling Blade

Dwight Yoakam and Billy Bob Thornton go way back. The two co-starred in the 1996 film Sling Blade.

Thornton played the movie’s main character, Karl Childers. Meanwhile, Yoakam played the film’s antagonist and Karl’s nemesis, Doyle Hargraves.

Sling Blade won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, and Thornton received a Best Actor nomination. Additionally, Thornton, Yoakam, and the film’s other stars earned a SAG Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Also in 1996, Yoakam and Thornton co-starred in the HBO film Don’t Look Back. They reunited on camera years later when Thornton appeared in the first season of the show Goliath, which starred Thornton.

Most recently, Yoakam recorded a song for the Landman soundtrack that he co-wrote with Thornton and Mark Collie. It’s called “That’s What Lonely People Do,” and you can listen to it below.
