Cody Johnson Reacts To His New “Country Roads” Recording With Dolly Parton & Rhonda Vincent

Rhonda Vincent Readies Release Of New, Themed Album Destinations And Fun Places
“The Queen of Bluegrass,” Rhonda Vincent, plans to release a new album featuring collaborations with artists such as Cody Johnson, Trisha Yearwood, Alison Krauss, and Dolly Parton. Titled Destinations and Fun Places, the themed project centers around songs about various destinations.
As Vincent told RFD-TV, the idea came to mind after a conversation with fellow Grand Ole Opry member Jeannie Seely. Seely recalled writing a song about Missouri years ago. But its lyrics were lost in the devastating Nashville flood in 2010.
In 2020 (the same year Seely invited Vincent to join the Opry), the lyrics to that long-lost song started coming back to Seely’s mind. Vincent joined her to help finish the song. That sparked something in her, and she felt inspired to start listing “over 100 [destination] songs” people know and love.
So, the idea for Destinations and Fun Places was born. The album, which will be released this upcoming Friday (August 9), contains two originals and multiple covers. One of those covers is a new rendition of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
Dolly Parton shares a previous connection to Denver’s classic tune. “Country Roads” was famously sampled in the 2016 mega-mashup “Forever Country,” which Parton participated in. The medley also included Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again” and Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.”

Vincent recorded “Country Roads” with Dolly Parton and Cody Johnson. She recently played the finished recording for Johnson backstage at the Grand Ole Opry.
“I just wanna hear what I sound like next to Dolly,” Johnson joked as Vincent prepared to play him the song. “You know, you’re the reason I got to sing with Dolly? Thank you, I owe you.”

Then, Vincent played the song for Johnson, and his reaction was priceless. His eyes widened, and he proclaimed, “God, it’s so good…oh, that’s so good.”
