Charley Pride released “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'” in October 1971 as the first single off his album Charley Pride Sings Heart Songs.

It became one of, if not the most, popular songs of his career. It crossed over to the pop chart and peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, while topping the Country chart. A number of country artists have recorded the song over the years including George Jones, Alan Jackson, Conway Twitty, Gene Stuart, Roy Clark, Percy Sledge, and Heather Myles.

In addition, Luke Combs performed it at the 2021 CMT Giants television special, which honored Charley Pride. In 2020, Charley Pride was the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award recipient at the CMA Awards. It also marked the last time he performed live, as he passed away a little over a month later to complications with COVID-19.
