Brenda Lee becomes the first female country artist with a Christmas song to join the Spotify Billions Club
This holiday season, “Little Miss Dynamite” Brenda Lee is celebrating a new milestone. Her smash hit song, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” has officially surpassed one billion streams on Spotify. Additionally, the track currently sits at No. 1 on Spotifyâs US songs chart.
With this achievement, Lee becomes the only female country artist with a holiday song to join an elite group of artists in the Spotify Billions Club. The 79-year-old was emotional when she was surprised with a plaque commemorating the feat. See the video below!

Recent country artists to also reach this milestone are Chris Stapleton with ‘Tennessee Whiskey” and Zach Bryan with “Something in the Orange.”
Brenda Lee recorded “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” in Nashville in 1958 when she was just 13 years old
“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” was written by Johnny Marks, the mind behind many Christmas favorites, including âRudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,â âA Holly Jolly Christmas,â and âI Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.â
The festive song has sold over 7 million copies, earning it a 7x platinum certification from the RIAA. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time in 2023, 65 years after its original release. As a result, Brenda became the oldest artist ever to top the chart at age 78.

On December 2nd, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” became solidified in Tennessee state history. The beloved Christmas tune was named the Official Holiday Song of Tennessee. Brenda was presented with a proclamation signed by Governor Bill Lee and Representative Jason Powell during a ceremony at the State Capitol.

âBrenda Lee is a music icon and a true Tennessee treasure. âRockinâ Around The Christmas Treeâ has spread holiday joy throughout the world for decades, and we are proud her number one song was made in Nashville. I am thrilled that my legislation made the beloved âRockinâ Around The Christmas Treeâ by Brenda Lee the first official holiday song of Tennessee.â
