Bill Anderson Is The Longest-Serving Member Of The Grand Ole Opry…Ever

Many country artists dream of becoming Opry members. A select few get the chance to achieve that dream. Once they do, they treasure their memberships dearly.

One person who places a lot of value in his Opry membership is Bill Anderson. The “Still” singer was inducted into the Opry on July 15, 1961. He was 23 years old at the time.

Now age 85, Anderson recently celebrated his 62nd Opry anniversary.

The date was a notable one for another big reason. Anderson is the longest-serving Opry member ever!

Tons of Opry members participated in a video congratulating Anderson on his achievements. Some of the stars who appeared in the clip were Carrie Underwood, Eddie Montgomery, and Lauren Alaina.

Although Anderson is the Opry’s longest-serving member, he is not its oldest.

The oldest member of the Opry is actually Buck White of the Whites, at the age of 92. 90-year-old Stu Phillips is the oldest solo member of the Opry.

Anderson filmed a video from the Opry to thank everyone for recognizing him:

“The longest serving member in Grand Ole Opry history, that’s what the sign says. And right now I feel every year of it,” Anderson said with a laugh. “No it’s been a wonderful night. I want to thank all of you for your many cards and letters, your support. People sent me flowers, people sent me all kinds of wonderful messages. And you’re what makes it all worthwhile. You’ve been so good to me, for 62 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

You can watch Anderson’s video below. Congratulations to him on his 62 years of Opry membership!
