Christmas at the Opry was a night of celebration to kick-start the holiday season.

It’s Christmastime in Music City! Some of the brightest stars in country music came together to spread holiday cheer with Christmas at the Opry. The special was recorded in front of a live audience at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN, and was aired on television tonight, December 7th.

The program was hosted by none other than Wynonna Judd. Wynonna is one of the most well-known female artists in country music but this was her first time hosting an Opry special. On the red carpet before the event, she told The Tennessean

“I’ve done television my whole career, but having a party like this, I feel very responsible for not only spreading the joy but the love and the peace just because of the hell I’ve been through this past year… I’m just in the moment. I’m looking forward to singing the songs that I love.”

In addition to her hosting duties, Wynonna was among the lineup of celebrated performers for the night. She took the Opry stage multiple times and one of the most special was to sing “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” which she originally recorded with her late mother, Noami.

Wynonna recently released a reimagined version of the Christmas hymn 35 years later. Prior to the TV special, she was asked by Parade why she chose to release the song as a solo single now. She responded:

“I’m experiencing a lot of memories. It’s like a big scrapbook right now for me…It’s like everyone else in life that has the family over and they get down the scrapbooks and they talk about the memories, and they look at the photos and they just remember when and that’s what I’m doing with “Beautiful Star.”

Accompanied by a quartet and a trio of backup singers, Wynonna’s performance on Christmas At The Opry was a beautiful reminder of the meaning of Christmas.
