Brenda Reid, the beloved spouse of Harold Reid passed away on Thursday, February 29th.

An excerpt from Brenda’s obituary states:

“She will be remembered for her wonderful sweet tea, round steak and gravy, homemade pies, German chocolate cake, and the hottest hamburger chili you have ever tasted! The vast majority of her life was devoted to her husband and children.”

In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by nine siblings and her cherished husband, Harold Wilson Reid.

Brenda’s husband, Harold Reid, founder of The Statler Brothers, previously passed away on April 24, 2020, at the age of 80, after battling kidney disease.

The Statler Brothers, blending contemporary country and folk with gospel harmonies, left a lasting legacy in the musical world.

Acknowledging Brenda’s passing, The Oak Ridge Boys shared their condolences in a tweet on March 1, stating, “Rest in Peace Brenda…Heaven’s gain…”

The Oak Ridge Boys and the Statler Brothers, both iconic country music groups from the mid-20th century, shared a similar genre and era. However, they were distinct entities with unique styles and contributions to the country music scene.

“I think [The Statler Brothers] opened the door for The Oak Ridge Boys,” Oaks lead singer Duane Allen told Wide Open Country in April 2021.

“One of the biggest differences between the Statlers and The Oak Ridge Boys has to do with Harold Reid,” said Oak Ridge Boys bass singer Richard Sterban. “He stood on the wrong side of the stage. He doesn’t stand in the bass singer’s spot. He stands in the tenor spot.”
