Trisha Yearwood Makes CMA Debut With “She’s In Love With The Boy”

Trisha Yearwood sings “She’s In Love With the Boy” at her first CMA Awards show in 1991 at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.
Hosted by Reba McEntire, the 25th CMA Awards looked like one for the books as they showcased numerous artists such as Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, and videos of the event even show then-president George Bush in attendance.
Before 27-year-old Yearwood takes the stage, Reba gives some backstory for the hit song.
“Well, here’s a true story that shows you how unbelievable this business is. A record producer finds a great song, but he doesn’t know what to do with it, so he puts it in the file hoping that the right artist will come along someday. A year or two later, he hears a new female singer and he says, “that’s the right singer for that song.” Well, the singer records the song and becomes the first lady in country music in more than 25 years to have her first single go number one in the charts. Believe it or not, that’s exactly what happened this year to Trisha Yearwood.”
Yearwood proceeds to deliver a flawless performance of her popular song, “She’s In Love With the Boy,” earning the applause of all in attendance.
Trisha’s claim to fame,”She’s In Love With the Boy,” has become wildly popular over the years.
In 2021, Yearwood was surprised on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry with the news that her hit song was the most listened to country song by a female artist in the history of MRC Data (a resource that monitors radio activity that powers Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart).

Trisha responded backstage at the Opry stating:
âWhen people come to a show, I see these girls singing âSheâs In Love With the Boyâ and theyâre like 15. Iâm thinking, âHow do you know this song?!â But now learning that itâs been heard that many timesâitâs just such an honor!â
While “She’s In Love With the Boy” has become an iconic country song and has been nominated for numerous awards, it has never won an award.
